Summertime is well underway in Albuquerque, and we want you to make the most of it!
Today we’re going to share more things to do if you only have one day in our culture rich city. After waking to the smell of fresh baked breads, french toast, souffle or quiche, have some of our delicious coffee, indulge in our sumptuous breakfast and be on your way for a day.
Start at the Titanic Artifact Exhibition at the Museum of Natural History & Science where you’ll explore 100 years of one of the world’s greatest maritime tragedies. www.nmnaturalhistory.org/
Next, put on some sunscreen and pack your water and camera, and head out to the Petroglyph National Monument. You’ll see over 200 petroglyphs at the Boca Negra Canyon, about a 20 minute drive from the B&B. www.nps.gov/petr/planyourvisit/bn.htm
Afterward, take a relaxing break and taste some of the award winning wines at Casa Rondena Winery in the north valley. This winery is an oasis in the city, offering some of the state’s best wines, and a spectacular retreat from a busy day. www.casarondena.com/
Then, meander across town to the Sandia Peak Tramway to get a ticket to ride to the top of the Sandia Mountains to experience breathtaking views of the city. www.sandiapeak.com/ Best viewing is sunset, so plan to go up in the daylight, do a short hike or have a cocktail at High Finance Restaurant, and return just after sunset. Then, head to Nob Hill and stroll until you find just the right bite to eat, and people watch along Central Avenue (Route 66) as the city comes alive in this eclectic and fun neighborhood.
Another wonderfully enjoyable day in lovely Albuquerque!

Happy New Year & we hope you’re all staying warm this winter. This recipe is DELICIOUS & perfect for chasing away the winter-time chill; it’s warm, gooey, & as comforting as any dish could be. We hope you enjoy it!
- Plain bread of any kind – enough to fill a 9×13 pan about 2/3 full (we typically use left-over biscuits, croissants, or French bread, anything will work as long as it has a mild flavor that wont disrupt the sweetness of the recipe- so no rye or pickle-loaf! ).
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 cup half and half
- 10 eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla
- 1 heaping tbsp cinnamon
- 2 cups milk
Tear bread into small pieces & place in bottom of greased 9×13 pan. Combine remaining ingredients & pour evenly over bread. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-60 minutes. Cut into pieces and pour sauce over top.
- ¼ cup butter
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 tbsp water
- 2 tbsp bourbon
Melt butter in saucepan. Once melted, add sugar and water. Stir thoroughly & add egg yolk. Allow to simmer/boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat & add bourbon. Pour over top of bread pudding or serve on the side. Serves 10-13.
We hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday & are enjoying all the black friday shopping deals. We wanted to let you know about a local shopping event that happens right in our neighborhood every year (we love our fellow local businesses here at the Mauger Estate B&B).
Saturday, December 1st in the Historic Nob Hill area of Albuquerque there will be traffic-free shopping & a holiday parade! The streets will be closed between Washington St. & Girard Blvd, creating a calm, stress-free shopping event. In addition, there will be live music such as carolers, mariachis, & strolling musicians; photos with Santa, & FREE trolly rides provided by ABQ Trolley Co. The streets are closed between noon & midnight & all the area stores are participating with excellent discounts!
The Twinkle Light Parade begins at 5:15pm & heads west on Central Ave starting at Washington St.. The parade features hundreds of twinkling floats, vehicles, animals, people, & more; with a very special appearance by Santa Claus. For more information on this exciting local event, please visit www.rt66central.com
This event is always a bunch of fun so if you’re in this neck of the woods, we hope to see you there!
We hope you’re all staying nice & warm as the fall temperatures continue to drop around the country. To help keep you warm, we’d like to share one of our favorite fall recipes; Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread (it’s delicious!). We serve this recipe occasionally & I have used this recipe at fall family gatherings; it’s always a huge hit!
Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread
- 2 C flour
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp baking soda
- 2 eggs
- 1 C sugar
- 1 C canned pumpkin
- 2/3 C vegetable oil
- ¾ C chocolate chips
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease loaf pan. In large bowl, sift dry ingredients.
- In another bowl, beat eggs, oil, pumpkin and sugar. Mix dry and wet ingredients just until moistened, add chocolate chips. Place batter in loaf pan and bake for one hour. (You can also use the small loaf pans… they bake quicker & make great little gifts!)
Doesn't this photo just say "yummy!"?
We hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do & when you make it at home we hope you think of us here at The Mauger Estate B&B.
Have a great day!
Hello Friends of The B&B,
We hope you’re having a lovely November! We sure are; the weather has finally cooled; all the red, yellow, & gold leaves are falling; & there are a number of exciting fall & winter events on the horizon here in Albuquerque. We wanted to give you all a quick update of the happenings around the Inn, as well as a couple discounts to really be “Thankful” for. Right now, if you mention this blog while making your reservation, you’ll receive an additional 10% off our lowest published rates (that’s a great deal!). This offer is valid on new reservations only, and only from 11/19 to 11/26.
As for what’s new here, it has been quiet around the Inn, giving us a chance to spend some time making a couple little changes which really help keep this place running smoothly & beautifully. For example, we got a new settee! Isn’t it pretty?
Our New Settee
We think it looks right at home in our front room…
We also had a charming new guest this week! He was playful, sweet, & had the best hair-do we’ve seen all month! Meet Jupiter; he stayed with us in our pet friendly room.
