A Delicious Winter-Time Recipe: Bread Pudding with Bourbon Sauce

Hello All!

Happy New Year & we hope you’re all staying warm this winter. This recipe is DELICIOUS & perfect for chasing away the winter-time chill; it’s warm, gooey, & as comforting as any dish could be. We hope you enjoy it!

Bread Pudding

  • Plain bread of any kind – enough to fill a 9×13 pan about 2/3 full (we typically use left-over biscuits, croissants, or French bread, anything will work as long as it has a mild flavor that wont disrupt the sweetness of the recipe- so no rye or pickle-loaf! :) ).
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 cup half and half
  • 10 eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 1 heaping tbsp cinnamon
  • 2 cups milk

Tear bread into small pieces & place in bottom of greased 9×13 pan. Combine remaining ingredients & pour evenly over bread. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-60 minutes. Cut into pieces and pour sauce over top.

  • Bourbon Sauce
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp bourbon

Melt butter in saucepan.  Once melted, add sugar and water.  Stir thoroughly & add egg yolk.  Allow to simmer/boil for 5 minutes.  Remove from heat & add bourbon.  Pour over top of bread pudding or serve on the side. Serves 10-13.

Enjoy!

Twinkle Light Parade & Nob Hill Holiday Shop & Stroll

 Good evening,
We hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday & are enjoying all the black friday shopping deals. We wanted to let you know about a local shopping event that happens right in our neighborhood every year (we love our fellow local businesses here at the Mauger Estate B&B).

Saturday, December 1st in the Historic Nob Hill area of Albuquerque there will be traffic-free shopping & a holiday parade! The streets will be closed between Washington St. & Girard Blvd, creating a calm, stress-free shopping event. In addition, there will be live music such as carolers, mariachis, & strolling musicians; photos with Santa, & FREE trolly rides provided by ABQ Trolley Co. The streets are closed between noon & midnight & all the area stores are participating with excellent discounts!

The Twinkle Light Parade begins at 5:15pm & heads west on Central Ave starting at Washington St.. The parade features hundreds of twinkling floats, vehicles, animals, people, & more; with a very special appearance by Santa Claus. For more information on this exciting local event, please visit www.rt66central.com

This event is always a bunch of fun so if you’re in this neck of the woods, we hope to see you there!

One of our Favorite Fall Recipes

Good Morning,

We hope you’re all staying nice & warm as the fall temperatures continue to drop around the country. To help keep you warm, we’d like to share one of our favorite fall recipes; Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread (it’s delicious!). We serve this recipe occasionally & I have used this recipe at fall family gatherings; it’s always a huge hit!

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread

  • 2 C flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 C sugar
  • 1 C canned pumpkin
  • 2/3 C vegetable oil
  • ¾ C chocolate chips
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease loaf pan. In large bowl, sift dry ingredients.
  2. In another bowl, beat eggs, oil, pumpkin and sugar.  Mix dry and wet ingredients just until moistened, add chocolate chips.  Place batter in loaf pan and bake for one hour. (You can also use the small loaf pans… they bake quicker & make great little gifts!)

Doesn't this photo just say "yummy!"?

We hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do & when you make it at home we hope you think of us here at The Mauger Estate B&B. :)

Have a great day!

October Recap & November Discounts

Hello Friends & Happy November!

October was a fun-filled month; Balloon Fiesta was a great success & we enjoyed every second of the two hectic weeks. We’re already excited to see all our repeat ballooners as well as some new faces for next year! It’s never too early to book your room for the most popular Albuquerque travel event of the year so give us a call & or make a reservation now for your room or townhouse for next year’s Balloon Fiesta.

This year there were a couple of new Balloon Fiesta services we learned about, including: The A Club Limosuine service, which picked up right at our front door & dropped off right outside the Balloon Fiesta gates. The cost was slightly more than the cost of using the city’s Park & Ride service, but  all our guests who used this service said the convenience & friendly staff made it worth every penny! Also, we found out that ABQ Trolley provided tours that dropped guests of directly at the park as well (but only for the nighttime events); what fun! Furthmore, ABQ Trolley Co. also offered Albu-Creepy city tours for Halloween (spooky fun for the whole family!). For outdoors people interested in alternative transportation for Balloon Fiesta next year, Routes Bicycle Rentals offered a guided bike tour from Montano directly to the park. This option includes the cost of a bike rental & avoids all motorized vehicle traffic; using a bike & pedestrian only designated path directly to the Fiesta (it’s a gorgeous ride, although slightly chilly!).

In a tough economy, we’re incredibly grateful to all of the guests who chose to stay with us or are considering staying in the future. We simply adore our repeat guests as well as our first timers & we strive to provide a perfect, comfortable stay every single night. To show our appreciation for our guests, we’re extending our offer of 10% off for reservations of two nights or more & if you mention this blog post when booking your reservation, we’ll include a $20 voucher to Slate Street Cafe.

We look forward to welcoming you to Mauger Estate B&B soon!

Viva New Mexico Chile Festival

Here in the Land of Enchantment we LOVE our spicy food & especially our New Mexican chile! It’s unlike chile found anywhere else in the world. It’s a staple in our local cuisine & has become a symbol of our state’s cultural heritage. As you explore our state you’ll notice the delicious aroma of roasted green chile wafting through the air or decorative ristras of rich red chiles strung from adobe buildings, just about everywhere you go.

If you have never experienced New Mexican red or green chile, fall is the perfect time of year to get better acquainted with the delectable spice. Here at the B&B we encourage you to learn more about our rich culture, heritage, & cuisine (& of course, have a ton of fun!) by visiting Wagner’s Farmland Experience for the Viva New Mexico Chile Festival.

Viva New Mexico Chile Festival will be held on September 8 & 9 in Los Lunas, NM at their 288-acre farm.  Just a short drive from Albuquerque, the farm is conveniently located for visitors from the city; & Viva New Mexico Chile Festival is an official event of the statewide centennial celebration.

The Wagner’s, along with other  participating chile farmers, will be prepared with loads of freshly picked chile ready for sale and sampling. A mini-growers market will offer other produce grown in the valley. Food vendors will feature this delightful delicacy in their dishes, and chile products in every possible configuration will be available (have you ever eaten red chile fudge?! Yum!).

The celebration will offer variety of chile themed contests, live entertainment,
arts and crafts, and countless chile products. Other family-friendly activities include: hay ride tours through the farmland, a corn maze, a petting zoo, u-pick flower gardens, cow milking demonstrations, pony rides, face painting, and speakers projecting information on a number of fascinating subjects.

I’m very excited to visit Wagner’s Farm for Viva New Mexico Chile Festival; will you be there too? As always, it is our pleasure to help our guests find fun & interesting things to do as they visit our lovely state; please ask any of our staff about events & activities during your stay!
